Teaching
Trained as both a Performer and a Scholar, Nic has designed and taught university courses in Introduction to Theatre, Acting, as well as Theatre History, Literature, and Theory. He has taught in theatre departments at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA, the University of Texas at Austin, and James Madison University in Abingdon, VA.
Nic’s approach to teaching combines a commitment to academic and artistic rigor with an equal commitment to universal access and student-oriented pedagogy. He regards his students’ individual perspectives as unique and valuable tools that enrich their understandings of theatre and performance.
Nic works to actively engage with his students’ lived experiences, and provide opportunities for the curricula to expand, deepen, and multiply their passions as they enhance their skills. His curriculum is largely problem-based and utilizes principles of Universal Design for Learning to offer students not only justification for class materials, but also to provide multiple possible strategies for connections to their own experience.
