Nic Hamel is a theatre artist, an interdisciplinary scholar, and educator based in Chicago. Nic holds a PhD in Performance as Public Practice from the University of Texas at Austin, an MFA in Acting from Louisiana State University, as well as a BFA in Theatre Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University. He researches theatre, performance, and disability, with an emphasis on theatre makers with intellectual disabilities. Nic has taught for Theatre departments at Louisiana State University, University of Texas at Austin, and James Madison University.

Acting

Nic has appeared as an actor and singer in productions ranging from Shakespeare to Musical Theatre.

Research

Nic’s scholarly work exists at the confluence of disability activism and performance aesthetics.

Teaching

Nic has designed and taught courses in Intro to Theatre, Acting, Theatre History, Literature, and Theory.
